“Jose Ramón” award

Rasul Musaev

“The "José Ramón" trophy has been created for, and is destined to, those people (players, delegates, technical staff etc.), organisations or entities that, in some way, have stood out during, or before, the tournament as a result of acts or behaviour worthy of special recognition. This trophy will be awarded by the organisation by virtue of the merits displayed.”

This year, thanks to the collaboration with the ISCU (International School Chess Union), we are counting on a kid who, taking chess as the only one vehicle, and after became champion of his school, was able to travel across two continents and, after ,more than 15.000 kilometres, arrive to our small town from the also phorty city of Vladivostok, close to the most Eastern Russian border, in the middle of Japan sea.

For you to realize how this is, if we would take all this way by car, by the shortest way, and going as fast as possible in every stretch and no stopping not even once, it would take us 160 hours and 44 minutes, it means : a whole week for just the way there.

But this ‘small’ circumstance would surely had been overlooked by Jose Ramón, though, anydoubt, our little star not. Certainly, in spite of being aged 10, he is not international rated, and he does not even hope to get an important prize, Jose Ramón would stare, dazzled, at all of his games, because our young awarded, besides of excellent basic knowledges, wears an unusual quality : a deep respect to his opponents and to the chess game.

Too much times the competition spirit pushes us to forget this, that is why the Organizers of the International Chess Open under 20 “San Agustín”, has decided to give this special award to Russian Rasul Musaev.
